Nuzul Al-Quran Celebration 1432 Hijrah

The highlight of this year's National Nuzul Al-Quran Celebration was the presentation of prizes to winners of the National al-Quranic Verses Memorisation and Understanding Competition and MABIMS member countries category for 1432 Hijrah. At the ceremony, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to present the prizes.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Mohammad, as well as members of the Executive Committee. Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik, and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah al-Fatihah led by the State Mufti, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.

In his welcoming speech, the Minister of Religious Affairs who is also the Chairman of the Executive Committee for Major Islamic Celebrations for 1432 Hijrah, touched on how each of the categories competed has made improvement, not only through memorising but also the understanding of the content of the al-Quran itself.

The function was highlighted with a special talk entitled al-Quran Sumber Tamadun or al-Quran: the Source of Civilisation, delivered by the Raes of the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, Doctor Hajah Masnon binti Haji Ibrahim. The talk touched on the al-Quran as the source of Islamic civilisation which is supreme, syumul and complete that covers the core aspects in faith or belief, syariah or law and behaviour. The supremacy of the al-Quran is a source of Islamic civilisation that can prove through a number of authentication aspects and its preservation which has been guaranteed by Allah Subhanahu Wataala.

The culmination of the ceremony was the prize presentation of the National Al-Quranic Verses Memorisation and Understanding Competition and MABIMS member countries category for 1432 Hijrah. Category A is the memorisation of surah Al-Mutaffifiin, surah Al-Insyiqaaq, surah Al-Buruuj, surah Ath-Thariq, surah Al-A'laa, surah Al-Ghasyiyah, surah Al-Fajr, surah Al-Balad, surah Asy-Syams and the verses from surah Ad-Dhuha up to surah al-Quraisy as well as the understanding of surah Al-Buruuj for 10 years and below. The category was won by Awang Muhammad Hazim bin Haji Hazilan, who received one thousand five hundred dollars, a trophy and a certificate.

In category B, participants are required to memorise surah Luqman, surah As-Sajdah, surahs Yaasin, Ad-Dukhan, Ar-Rahman, Al-Waqi'ah, Al-Jumua'ah, Al-Mulk, Al- Insaan as well as the understanding of surah Al-Waaqi'ah for 15 year olds, which was won by Dayang Haziqah binti Haji Hazilan, who received two thousand dollars, a trophy and a certificate.

Meanwhile Category C was won by Awang Mohammad Najib bin Haji Aliakbar, who received two thousand, eight hundred dollars, trophy and certificate. The category was open to all ages and required participants to memorise the first fifteen chapters of the Al-Quran and understanding of Chapter 5.

Awangku Khairul Ikhwan bin Pengiran Alit emerged as champion in Category D, receiving four thousand five hundred dollars, a trophy and a certificate. The category required participants to memorise the thirty chapters of the Al-Quran as well as the understanding of the sixteenth chapter.

Meanwhile, for the MABIMS member countries - the category of memorising 10 chapters of the Al-Quran and understanding chapter five for 20 years old and under was won by a participant from Indonesia, Dayang Lutfi Lutfiah. She received four thousand dollars, a trophy and a certificate. Meanwhile for the 30 chapters of Al-Quran as well as understanding 30 years and under category was won by Brunei Darussalam's participant, Awang Mohammad Fikri bin Haji Sharbini, who received seven thousand dollars, a trophy and a certificate.

The ceremony was further highlighted with a nasyid performance.

His Majesty then consented to present the prizes. This year, one hundred and five participants had registered to participate in the nationwide competition. Only eighteen participants were selected to the national level finals. Meanwhile, a total of seven people participated in the MABIMS member countries category for 1432 Hijrah.

Doa selamat was read to bless the ceremony. This year's theme is 'al-Quran Sumber Tamadun' or 'al-Quran the source of civilisation'. The celebration was jointly organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Ministry of Defence. Also present was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Councils and Deputy Ministers.
