His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, in a titah, has reiterated on the supremacy of the Al-Quran, and urged Muslims to return to the holy book in order to maintain the glory of past Islamic civilisations. The Monarch had earlier pointed out how some Islamic civilisations met with destruction when they turned their backs on the teachings of the al-Quran. His Majesty was speaking at the National Nuzul Al-Quran or Revelation of the al-Quran celebration1432 Hijrah at the International Convention Centre in Berakas last night. His Majesty stressed that the teachings of the al-Quran must be upheld not only in relation to acts of piety and community aspects, but also concerning food sources by ensuring their halalness or permissibility for consumption by Muslims. His Majesty explained that Muslims had built their civilisation by being faithful to Allah the Almighty and the al-Quran. It is with such fidelity that they had created a genuine identity and nationhood to the point of building up a sovereignty that grew to become a respected empire.
